St Wilfrid’s Academy Woodland Trust Award

St Wilfrid’s Academy is delighted to have been awarded the Green Tree Schools Bronze Award this week, in recognition of the innovative and creative ways they have promoted nature and conservation across the school.

The Woodland Trust Green Tree Schools Award encourages outdoor learning and inspires pupils about trees, woods and wildlife.

Through the award, students take part in fun, practical projects while helping the environment and improving the school grounds. Pupils can also earn certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Schools are rewarded for doing environmental projects such as tree planting, reducing CO2 emissions and visiting woods.

Students at St Wilfrid’s, led by teacher Sharon Kent, have taken part in a number of environmental activities, including developing a sensory garden, tree planting, building bird boxes and bee hotels, and creating a new potager garden, growing a selection of flowers, fruit, and vegetables, as part of the academy’s enrichment programme. The school is now working towards gaining the silver award.
