  • 'Being British' in KS3

    KS3 artists have been using Grayson Perry as their inspiration, to create their own pots and vases, decorated with images representing 'Being British', this half term's theme.

    As part of this half term's thematic curriculum on 'Being British', an enthusiastic group of KS3 students ventured out to Brodsworth Hall, a local stately home run by English Heritage. The grounds were a great source of adventure with sunken gardens, tunnels and follies to be explored. After our tour we ventured into a secluded meadow and played softball rugby and football for an hour in the spring sunshine.     On Mondays during the Summer Half term the Primary children of St Wilfrid’s are working with a coach from Sports 4 All. So far they have developed their football skills and played blind football. They have been introduced to Archery.

    This week they have improved their basketball skills and had a go at Fencing.

    On Friday 16th March a group of KS3 students visited the Manchester Space Institute to see British Astronaut Tim Peak's Soyuz return capsule and space suit. Everyone was taken aback by how small the capsule actually was, considering it was for a three man crew. After the presentation, we visited the Robot exhibition, which featured a Terminator and a Shakesperian robot, who could quote the baird in 23 languages!     Students at SWA have brought Science, maths and technology to life, in our most recent STEM day.  Groups worked vertically to create slime, conduct Corn starch experiments, attempt Plastic milk production, complete the Egg drop challenge and try their hand at Water transfer engineering.

  • KS3 Barracks Visit: bringing learning to life

    The students visited the Ashworth Barracks Museum here in Doncaster on Thursday 30th November as part of our 'Conflict ' theme for KS3.

    The visit lasted a full 3 hours, which were full of enjoyable exhibits and the visit was totally interactive for the students and staff alike. The students were impeccably behaved for the minutes silence at the memorial in the museum. As a reward for some great behaviour the students went onto the airsoft range and everyone took home their range card and a certificate.

  • Year 11 GCSE Success

    Students, staff and parents are celebrating after the first set of GCSE results, since St Wilfrid’s Academy became a formal examinations centre this academic year.

    The Alternative Provision supports students in reengaging with learning, whilst focusing on both employability and personal and social skills, enabling them to gain academic outcomes and develop aspirations beyond GCSEs.

    The majority of students joined the Academy after their 14th birthday and were then able to make rapid progress towards securing

    St Wilfrids has been oficially recognised for its 'Thrive Approach' in learning. 

    The Thrive Approach draws on insights from these fields to provide a powerful way of working with children and young people that supports optimal social and emotional development. In particular, the Approach equips you to work in a targeted way with children and young people who have struggled with difficult life events to help them re-engage with life and learning.
