Hospitality & Catering

Hospitality and Catering is taught throughout KS3 and KS4 this course is designed for individuals who are starting out in the field of cookery and who want to learn more about the industry. It is an excellent way to begin your journey in a professional career in catering and hospitality. We aim to teach students how to produce food, starting from the very basics right through to understanding the importance of having a healthy lifestyle and making the right food choices. The subject also hopes to enable the students to take ownership of their learning and take pride in the final outcome. 
You will cover a number of practical and theoretical units. Practical units will be assessed through ongoing observations reviewing your skills and knowledge. Theory will be covered through knowledge and supplementary evidence.


Students will work towards achieving a BTEC level 1qualification in Jamie’s Home Cooking Skills which is aimed at developing pupils knowledge and understanding of food. It will also enable them to make informed decisions about diet and nutrition, health and safety and wise food shopping. Pupils will also develop skills and techniques which will allow them to prepare and cook a range of dishes, using different pieces of equipment and a variety of ingredients. Pupils will be regularly monitored and assessed, with feedback given throughout the module, to ensure they have an understanding of how to achieve the aims and objectives set in each session. At the end of the Jamie’s Home Cooking Skills module each pupil should be efficient in the basic skills needed to cook healthy and nutritious food for themselves and their families.
